Beirut Airport Bombing Continues

I've searched high and low for a news source that has anything particularly original and not entirely partisan to say about the escalating situation in Gaza-Israel-Lebanon. None were really forthcoming. World leaders haven't come up with much more than "Israel has the right to defend itself but should show restraint". Do we pay these clowns merely to come up with evasive and predictable no-brainers? It appears so.

That Israel has the right to defend herself is not in dispute here. That Hezbollah's actions are acts of war isn't either.

What is a matter of dispute is how "deactivating" Beirut's International airport is somehow going to get Israel her abductees back. Bombing an airport will somehow stop Hezbollah from getting the Israeli soldiers to Iran? Even if that were true, it's a self-defeating fallacy nonetheless. Logically speaking, if the soldiers aren't somehow allowed to return home, a return which at the end of all of this will almost certainly be the result of a prisoner swap, the IAF will have to continue indefinitely to stop the Lebanese from trying to re-open the airport, presumably by bombing it some more. Considering the hostage crisis could drag on for months, what kind of a solution is that?

Israel can, militarily speaking, do as she pleases and she will. How all this will contribute to her long-term security, which can only come from stability in the region and peace with her neighbours, remains entirely unclear.

Israel would do well to remeber the story of David and Goliath - which they so obviously have forgotten.

Richard:

Right now the whole bunch is simply sickening me: Hezbollah, the IDF, Hamas, the US, the EU, the UN...

"Clueless in the Middle East" is what this whole episode should be called. Everybody is simply entrenched in their own positions and the entire world's spin machine churns out more lies than ever. In the mean time innocents get killed by the bucket load and expensive infrastructure is being destroyed or seriously damaged but who cares, really?

Let's all keep playing the blame game in a causality palindrome (as someone called it) which makes "chicken and egg" look like a toddler's riddle...

When the bombast has cleared after the smoke has, negotiations will be resumed of course. First we need a good dollop of mindless violence, all for a "good cause", needless to say...

You're right in that Israel has a tendency to create its problem groups in hindsight. There's a terrific Washington Post article on it, but it costs money to view -- it's called "Israel created hezbollah" or something to that effect. You can google it.

I've only recently "come out of the closet" on my moral beliefs in Judaism, and I am continually thankful for refreshing opinions like yours that take into account the whole story.

If only that were true... I try to see both sides of the "story" and in the process fail rather miserably. Still, it's better to try to do this than to completely fall for the blindness of this nationalism or that nationalism.

They [all nationalisms] have rather a lot to answer for, not in the least for the Jewish Holocaust, of course...

Gert,

Funny that I should come hear today and read your own comment re: trying to see both sides of the story.

I'd just linked to you earlier tonight, and recommended/plugged your place in my latest post, and what you just said you tried to do, has been obvious to me for a while. That's part of my reasoning behind 'plugging' you.

Behemoth,
I hope you understand that when W-post reports that "Israel created Hizbullah" they are not talking that Israel actually helped create the organization.

From the start Hizbullah was funded and supported by Syria and Iran. It's purpose when it was created (or I should say, it's STATED Purpose) was to get Israel out of south Lebanon.
After Israel withdrew - it lost it's cause/ reason to exist - so it had to find something else to do - now it is trying to strengthen it's status in Lebanon, while taking the entire south Lebanon area as hostage.

one last thing to think about before you go on with your (not so smart) rants - Hizbullah has fired over 700 Katyushas in the past 4 days almost every single one of them was AIMED at Civilian areas!! They are TRYING to hit civilians, not army. as a result there are over 500 injured and over 15 dead from these attacks on the Israeli side!

Yes, let's remember, tiny israel (david) fights the giant gentile Goliath, and wins..

today, 6 million jews fight 1.2 billion moslems for it's life...

one tiny israel surrounded by 21 arab states and another 50 islamic states

israel has no natural resources, the arab world 1/2 the worlds oil...

hmmmm

History has a habit of repeating itself.

"Tiny" Israel is the world's 5th most heavily armed nation - with nukes and all.

Don't use that mugs-bait about size, with me. It simply won't wash. How big is a nuclear bomb? How big is a Trident submarine? One carrying several nuclear bombs? They are infinitly tiny, in the grand scheme of things. Haven't you heard? Size isn't important.

Also, 6 million Jews are NOT fighting 1.6 billion Muslems for their lives. Muslems and Jews live peacefully alongside each other in many countries - my country to name but one. The country my brother lives in to name another. And many, most of the world's people damned well know it. Nor or they fighting each other in America.

Are you genuinely misinformed, brainwashed, being disingenuous or flat out lying? Maybe you're just a fantasist or somebody making all this up as you go along -- for a laugh.

Gawd! "tiny" Israel. Weapons of mass destruction - r - (tiny) Israel.

yes and they COULD HAVE USED THOSE NUKED FOR DECADES and HAVEN'T

I cant argue with that logic, please total up the COMBINED arab and islamic nations weapons and their SPENDING and compare it...

richard:: Also, 6 million Jews are NOT fighting 1.6 billion Muslems for their lives. Muslems and Jews live peacefully alongside each other in many countries - my country to name but one.

bull, the arab and islamic world have almost completely driven our all jews from their midst. Islam is at war with the non-islamic world

richard: The country my brother lives in to name another.

how about a list of ANY islamic or arab countries that have 25% jewish population and allowed to own land and hold jobs and titles, that would be the same as israel..

richard:. And many, most of the world's people damned well know it. Nor or they fighting each other in America.

america aint the issue... islamic total control of the world is

richard: Are you genuinely misinformed, brainwashed, being disingenuous or flat out lying? Maybe you're just a fantasist or somebody making all this up as you go along -- for a laugh.

name calling, not a good thing, gert gets real upset with that, however i guess that is allowed against me...

richard: Gawd! "tiny" Israel. Weapons of mass destruction - r - (tiny) Israel.

yep the victim, the arab nations, all 21 of the, 1/5 the worlds land mass, 300 million people, 1/2 the worlds oil and yet Israel is the goliath...

"What is occupation"

I see you've managed to wiggle your way back in here again, due to my absence of a couple of days, depspite you knowing you're no longer welcome here. I will now allow further comments from you but keep it civil or I will infact erase not just your future comments but past ones as well. Understood?

"name calling, not a good thing, gert gets real upset with that, however i guess that is allowed against me.."

As I've said: I decide what's acceptable and what's not, this is my blog, not yours...

gert, honestly as a jew, i am not welcome in most corners of the world, but does that stop me? naw...

It's your blog, we understand each other, my words are truthful, very truthful, if they offend sorry.

Fine.

Also accept that at this point in time I have absolutely no interest in entering into any kind of discussion with you. I don't care if you're Jewish, a Gentile, white, black, Chinese, Reptilian or a green alien with purple polka dots, for that matter. I will simply ignore you, unless you choose to be abusive again...

All the best and have a nice life.

Strewth! Now I have to wonder if that poster has a personal persecution complex or perhaps a reading and/or comprehension problem.

I called no'names'. Check it out. I posed questions.

And this time I call no 'names' either. I'm simply saying what I genuinely am left to wonder.

Perhaps my previously posed questions would again be appropriate at this point.

Also, I'd like to ask how many more [if any] Canadians have been killed by Israelis, if he knows. And how many more Britions have been drive from their homes by Israelis.

However, if past performance is anything to go by, my questions will illicit anything but actual answers - even simple "don't know" ones.

Gert: your logic is falacious. It's not the number of people and the amount of oil, that makes Israel strong, and the Arabs weak. It's called massive US weaponry and US diplomatic support. Basically, Israel goes into every conflict knowing that the World's Only Superpower will bail them out if their American made arsenal doesn't win the day. And another thing, adding up the world's Muslim population and comparing it to Israel makes it seem that every Muslim on earth is fighting Israel. That's absurd. Finally, Muslims don't want to control the world; they want to control their world, which is currently houses lots of American military bases. Strange thing this claim of "Muslim domination." When Muslims start building military bases in England and the United States, then we can talk about Muslim domination. Stop borrowing Le Pens talking points.
