What I objected to all along about Bush using WMD to go to war was that it should have been about fighting islamic terrorism, whether pan-arabist or religious jihadist. Weapons, even if he had them, are by themselves insufficient. The real war all along should have been with Iran. That said, I supported and still do support the war in spite of Bush and Rumsfeld's bumbling. Reason: Iraq is now powerless to harm Israel, whom Saddam funded terrorism against with his pal Arafat for years.

one of the reasons to go to war in Afghanistan and Iraq was to attract the Jihadis to those countries where innocent civilian casualties caused by both sides would NOT be Americans on American soil.
Whether our Homeland Security has worked or not, the FACT is that we have killed approximately 30,000 Jihadis in the Middle East with a total loss of allied forces under 5,000.
