Abiogenesis for Dummies...
Abiogenesis, the emergence of living cells from non-living matter, remains difficult to understand for theists and atheists alike, although the former are naturally far more sceptical about it than the latter. The maker of the YouTube below does a remarkably good job of explaining the abiogenesis hypothesis.
Here's the same guy debunking Intelligent Design (ID ain't so intelligent).

Very interesting Gert...and very plausable. As with so many aspects of life...it all boils down to individual belief systems.
I often describe myself as a "Recovering Catholic". For a very long period in my life I felt and strongly believed as you, and it's safe to say that about 25 years ago I would have been loudly applauding this post. Then, during an extremely trying and stressful time in my life, three incidents happened which I could not chalk up to "coincidence". I won't go into the specifics here, but it was after the last of these three ocurrances that my belief in a "Higher Power" became my own personal epiphany.
To this day, my shadow still has not graced the threshold of any church or "organized" religion, but my belief in a Higher Power, whom I choose to call God, is just as strong today as following the incidents which brought me to where I am today. Today my definition of "coincidence" is when God chooses to remain anonymous.
I respect your views and beliefs and will never try to change or affect them. I just hope that whatever your path in life is destined to be that it is smooth and happy...and God willing, someday you'll join me....
Thanks Cookie. My conversion is far from imminent but you never know...
Cookie, does Jesus Christ fit into the equation. Was he part of your personal epiphany? I know many who believe in God, evolution and an ancient earth, I just wonder how you would fit JC into the picture and why.
Man "beaj", nuthin like a real simple question with a real simple answer... ;-)
"G-d" was my main epiphany, later JC. I've never read the Bible...except for historical referrances and research...I consider myself a "frustrated Indiana Jones" type, with a keen interest in history and archaeology. Guess ya might say I look at both sides of the coin for a better perspective.
I know that doesn't totally answer yur question, but it's as far as I'm willing to discuss in this forum...
