Death to Iran!

From Anthony Loewenstein:

This is mainstream American news television, a discussion about how Iran should be bombed, when it should happen, if Israel should be assisted and if Israel should assassinate Iranian leaders to bring regime change. Can you imagine the outcry if Iranian television had the same kind of program, discussing the ways in which Israeli leaders should be murdered and how Israel should be bombed? Shameful:

I think it's saber rattling. If there is war or sanctions, it'll hurt the workers and the left.

Since both experts said an attack on Iran would be a disaster and did not voice support for assassinations, I don't see what the big problem is with such an interview. There is a situation where Israel or the United States might attack Iran. Should a news program ignore such a possibility?

I agree that it's mainly saber rattling, but it has nothing to do with Iran's workers and the left. Nobody in the United States, Israel or any Western power cares about ordinary Iranians.

The point is not that such program should not be made. The point is that if a similar program was shown on Iranian TV there would be Western outrage, condemnation and possibly worse besides that.

The Mullah's may be hypocrites but the West is deeply hypocritical vis-à-vis Iran too. Western websites (US in particular) comment elaborately about Iran's anti-West chants, while selling "Nuke Iran" mugs, T-shirts and other merchandise from their sidebars...
