Quote of the day: Yael Dayan

Yael Dayan, daughter of the famous Moshe:

If I gave every Israeli Jew an atom bomb to keep beside their bed, they would still feel threatened.

Translated from Dutch, from: ‘In Lood Gegoten. Israel en de tragedie van de Joodse staat’, by Sus van Elzen, ISBN 987 90 8542 305 8, p. 178

Impressed to note Yael Dayan's mastery of Dutch. Does this mean she can now talk nonsense in three languages?

On the other hand, the lady (sadly though author, former MK, etc in her own right, still seen by this author as just "daughter of..") may have a point.

After all, I've never slept with an atom bomb beside my bed, but I have no doubt that were I to do so, I'd feel distinctly threatened.

You're doing what dumbos and fundies do: resort to literalism.

It's a jab at Israel's security obsession and if you're going to deny that exists too you're even more of a reality denier than previously I thought you were.

Daniel:

It was hardly an ‘unenviable’ dilemma (you self-aggrandising git!) to delete your latest attempt to comment here.

I’ll stay politish: your assertion that you don’t want to debate ‘matters of importance’ with me because I ‘know nothing about the subject’ is clearly nonsense in the light of:

* your past near-scatological attempts at insulting me here, at Millett’s and over at your own (I believe) now erstwhile blog, attempts that took up pages and pages and must have cost in total many, many hours of dedication on your part.

* your own ‘political testament’ (remember that?) which testifies that you are only capable of seeing the conflict in almost 100 % religious terms, which is to say the least a small minority position. In that respect I can safely claim that you know indeed very little about the subject. Alternatively we can simply agree to disagree.

I’ll put it even more simply (because despite your verbose attempts at belletrism you really are quite a simple and childish person): if you have something sensible to say, no matter how much I might disagree with it, it will be allowed to stand. Other nonsense is simply a waste of both our time, in your case time that would be better spent studying Torah (I doubt if the Good Book recommends dragging someone’s hypothetical penis size into an argument but I’m no expert!)
