Daniel Pipes: Elated by Lieberman

According to Daniel Pipes, über-Islamophobe, Irael-Firster par excellence and FrontPageMag twit: "Israel is back" (why - did it go away? Alas not).

Pipes pipes on:

He [Lieberman] celebrated his inauguration with a maiden speech that news reports indicate left his listeners grimacing, squirming, and aghast. The BBC, for example, informs us that his words prompted "his predecessor Tzipi Livni to interrupt and diplomats to shift uncomfortably."

Too bad for them – the speech leaves me elated. Here are some of the topics Lieberman covered in his 1,100-word stem-winder.

Well Daniel, we always suspected you of fascistoid tendencies, now we know for sure.

And I ain't no fan of Israel's Iron Lady but at least she had this to say:

Opposition leader Tzipi Livni on Friday accused Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman as having "erased in 20 minutes years of efforts to advance the peace process" when he declared that Israel was not bound by commitments it made at a 2007 summit in Annapolis to pursue creation of a Palestinian state

In an interview with Israel Radio, the Kadima chairwoman said she had expected Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to announce that he did not share Lieberman's expressed sentiments, and was disappointed that such clarification was not made.

Put it in your pipe and smoke it, Daniel.

Despite the rhetoric, the differences between the main parties in Israel are academic.

They'll do Washington's bidding.

You're right but I see a rift on the horizon.
